Aims
Through the study of Mathematics, students develop all 5 of the Key Competencies identified in the New Zealand Curriculum.
- Thinking and problem solving
- Using language, symbols and texts.
- Managing self.
- Relating to others.
- Participating and contributing.
Years 9 and 10
Maths is a compulsory subject in years 9, 10. Courses are planned to cater for the differing abilities of the students.
Year 11 — Level 1 NCEA
Maths is compulsory in Year 11. Students need to gain at least 10 numeracy credits to achieve Level 1 N.C.E.A.
Achievement Standards – Level 1
This course covers all the Level 1 Mathematics Achievement Standards. It covers all the Mathematical Strands: Number; and Algebra; Measurement and Geometry and Statistics.
Year 12 — Level 2 NCEA
Maths is an option subject in Year 12.
Achievement Standards – Level 2
The course covers all 9 Level 2 Achievement Standards. Students may gain a possible 24 Level 2 credits.
Year 13 — Level 3 NCEA
There are two Level 3 Achievement Standard courses offered. Students may take one or both of these.
